I know it is happening, and I know it may be too late already. But I am writing this blog as an “opinion piece”, appealing to fellow American Christians. I will not vote for Trump in my state’s primary and will not vote for him if he is the nominee; and neither should you.
I hesitated to publish this blog at all. There is no politics at WingsOfTheEagle for a reason, and no opinions on various candidates have ever before been publicized. For those who are not aware, I became heavily invested in the political scene starting back in 2007 and for those next 3 election cycles (2008, 2010, 2012) I devoted all of my volunteering time trying to “save the country” helping various conservative candidates at the Presidential level and even managed the campaign of the US Senate candidate for my state in 2012. It was on election night in 2012 that the Most High God spoke to me. The message was clear; America is not the nation you think it is, that was the last chance for a political “change”. I was to dedicate my time henceforth to the ministry of the Gospel, which led to the birth of WingsOfTheEagle.com in 2013. The point is, I learned the ins and outs of primary election season very very well. And I can tell you that after the result of South Carolina on Saturday night, the odds of Donald Trump being the nominee of the Republican Party are now 99%. It would take an unprecedented event to stop it – every other opponent save one drops out immediately and all their voters get behind the one. I will not use this space to flesh out Cruz vs. Rubio as to who that should be, but it would have to be one of them. Even at that, it may not be enough, and God Himself would have to intervene – but maybe this is what He is showing us. That the Church is asleep at the wheel. Friends, if we do have an election as scheduled in November, and Trump is one of the contestants on the grandest reality show of all time, he would very likely become President. He possesses the thing all politicians crave more than anything: universal name recognition. And in this time of shallowness and subjectivity, popularity is everything.
The fact is, the only reason he is on the cusp of victory is because Christians are voting for him – in droves. What I intend to do here is show why he is not worthy of our vote. The following are the exact words from recent weeks on this campaign trail – not years ago. I am intentionally avoiding more problematic stuff about Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, illegal immigration, etc and just focusing on his appeals to Christianity.
1. Interviewed in front of a live audience by veteran pollster Frank Luntz:
LUNTZ: “Have you ever asked God for forgiveness?” TRUMP: “I’m not sure I have. I just go and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so…I like to be good. I don’t like to have to ask for forgiveness. And I am good. I don’t do a lot of things that are bad…When I drink my little wine, which is about the only wine I drink, and have my little cracker, that’s a form of asking forgiveness.” LUNTZ: “What is your relationship with God?” TRUMP: “Well, I pray. I go to church. I do things that are wrong, I guess so. You know, I’m a businessperson. I really do well at business. I’ve done great. I’ve made some of the great deals.”
Is he equating doing well in business and “making great deals” with being close to God? That aside, does he – or anyone in America anymore – know that repentance for our many sins is a REQUIREMENT for becoming a Christian??? Don’t ask for forgiveness at the Cross of Jesus, and none will be given to you. And you will die in your sin and go to hell. That is Gospel 101, is it not? Describing the communion ritual as “my little wine and my little cracker” is highly insulting to millions of Christians around the world, I can assure you. Trump’s self-awareness seems to be non-existent.
2. Interviewed by political journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann:
HEILEMANN: “Are you an Old Testament guy, or a New Testament guy?” TRUMP: “Probably equal. I think it’s just incredible — the whole Bible is incredible. I joke very much so. I always hold up ‘The Art of the Deal,’ my second favorite book of all times. But I think the Bible is just something special.” HALPERIN: “I’m wondering what one or two most favorite Bible verses are and why?” TRUMP: “I wouldn’t want to get into it. That’s very personal. When I talk about the Bible, it’s very personal, so I don’t want to get into verses. HALPERIN: “There is no verse that means a lot to you, that you think about or say?” TRUMP: “The Bible means a lot to me. I don’t want to get into specifics.”
Not exactly hard theological questions. Those responses are not of a man whose Bible “means a lot to him”, but of a man who has never read it and is deflecting. At least has not read it often enough to remember it. We Christians who do cherish the Bible remember stuff – even if they are paraphrases. The Holy Spirit in us brings it to our memory. Defaulting to memories your own book is just unconscionable to me.
3. The infamous quip at Liberty University:
TRUMP: “This is a major theme right here, but Two Corinthians, 3:17, that’s the whole ballgame! Where the spirit of the lord, right, where the spirit of the lord is, there is liberty, and here there is Liberty College, but Liberty University, but it is so true. You know, when you think — and that’s really — is that the one? Is that the one you like? I think that’s the one you like because I loved it.”
I don’t really care that he said “two” instead of “second”, though it does likely reveal that he does not use the citation regularly, if ever. And so openly pandering?? “Is that the one you like”??? That is Clintonian level garbage! It is very possible he just wrote that scripture down – or had it written for him – as he walked in the door that day.
4. Town Hall meeting on MSNBC just last week on the question of Israel and “Palestine”:
TRUMP: “You know, I don’t want to get into it. If I win, I don’t want to be in a position where I’m saying to you [my choice] and the other side now says, ‘We don’t want Trump involved,’ Let me be sort of a neutral guy. I have friends of mine that are tremendous businesspeople, that are really great negotiators, [and] they say it’s not doable. You understand a lot of people have gone down in flames trying to make that deal. So I don’t want to say whose fault it is — I don’t think that helps.”
I mean, that speaks for itself. Not willing to call evil by its name, not defending Israel when given the chance, and seeking “the deal” above all else. Guess what, THE DEAL will be struck over the issue of Jerusalem, but not by Trump, by the ANTICHRIST.
5. And some bonus quotes that are instructive:
TRUMP: “Really, I had the great relationship with Christianity.” TRUMP: “I have great relationship with God. I have great relationship with evangelicals. In fact, nationwide, I am up by a lot.”
How can you “have a relationship” with something you already are a part of? Then without the slightest hesitation, pivot to your poll numbers…
When taken together, it is clear to me that Mr. Trump AT BEST is a baby Christian who is afraid and knows nothing of the doctrine of our faith, the Word, or the Spirit. At worst, he is a deceiver who believes none of it and is openly lying and pandering to get your vote. His only motivation for anything he does at this point is to “Close the Deal”. When he closes the deal in the primaries, he will move to close the deal in the general election. It may even make you feel good to see him destroy the Democrat challenger, but there will be no morals involved, trust me.
In my humble view, Donald Trump is a bully, an egomaniac, a liar, and completely untrustworthy. None of which are the Fruits of the Spirit. On top of that, he has duped millions of American Christians into supporting him. Or maybe we are all sleepwalking. Or some are half awake but their devotion to “Ameri-cult” overrides all else. I don’t care that you feel betrayed by Republicans or politicians in general. You HAVE been betrayed and lied to, but that’s not relevant here. I echo the thoughts of blogger extraordinaire Matt Walsh: “If Cruz or Rubio can’t win South Carolina, it may be time to panic. I feel we are on the cusp of something terrible.”
Again this is NOT to tell you who to support or vote for instead, only to shout the word of warning. It is quite possible that as God used Obama as our wicked king Saul, Trump will be our Pekah – Israel’s king that ushered in the times of the Assyrian. Keep in mind that Pekah aligned himself with king of Damascus, encouraged the Edomites and Philistines to attack Jerusalem, and so the Assyrians came and Israel fell…

The non-Christocentric worldview of most Christians causes them to come up with these little stupid sayings like – “we are not electing a pastor.” The truth is the three great governments – family, Church, and civil – were established by God and are to govern according to His rule. As it says in Romans 13 regarding the civil realm, “he is God’s minister to you for good” and “he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” HENCE – we should NOT give our vote for anyone who openly impugns or contravenes the Law or Word of God.
